THE HISTORY OF MEDICINAL WATER IN BOGÁCS

Drilling began in 1955 in Bogács for the purpose of oil exploration. The first drilling was started on July 21, 1955, with a 22-meter-high “Maszolay” type drilling rig, in the northern part of the village, west of the road leading to Cserépváralja.
During the continuous deepening of a new drilling that began on September 3, 1955, hard limestone and shale mixed rock was lifted from a depth of 451 meters on October 1.
Drilling continued to 461 meters. After that, samples were taken from the gray-white limestone between 461-465 meters, and then at 466.5 meters a large loss of drilling mud occurred.
On the famous October 9, at 2:00 p.m., a shift change occurred, when the workers of the shift were preparing to leave, the drilling master filled in the diary.

One of the drillers, for unknown reasons, went to the hoist and pulled the lever that started the drill rope. The drill rig started down, while the worker was approx. He raised it 2 meters high. From there, he let go of the structure and fell next to the lift. This process took place very quickly, during which the production pipe column fell 5-7 meters.
That’s when the truck bringing the switch arrived, from which the master driller Domján Domján jumped down and kicked the man who was scrambling up at the hoist on the bottom accompanied by an unbearable tone of printing ink. At the shouting and unusual noise, the people of the two shifts gathered and listened to the text of the drilling master’s curses.
After the events approx. After 10 minutes, a worker shouted: “Water is coming from the hole!” “. Steaming water erupted at 60-70 degrees C, with an estimated yield of 200-300 liters/minute.

It is assumed that the fall of the drill bit on the bedrock (at the bottom of the borehole) caused a rock crack that facilitated the breaking up of warm water from the deeper layers.

This was caused by the senseless cooperation of the worker who fell from a height of 2 meters without injury.

This drilling result has not yet brought any change in the village, because the hot water flowing out was temporarily diverted, and no suitable idea could be developed for its utilization.
Therefore, on October 14, 1955, the partially collapsed borehole was sealed with a cement plug placed at a depth of 268 meters, and the warm water flow ceased.
In the written commemoration, it can be read that in 1958-59, the presumed customers, Megyei Vízmű Vállalat, or the competent department of the County Council. Behind the drilling, the first swimming pool pit was already dug by the locals in social work.

Authentic data can be found in the archives of the Water Management Research Institute (Budapest). With these data, it can be considered proven that the first, single point time of breaking the hot medicinal water in the village of Bogács: October 9, 1955 between 14-15 hours.

The water of the spa, as sulphurous carbonated water, has a good effect primarily in rheumatic and locomotor diseases. Due to the temperature and sulfur content of the water, it is excellent for this.
For all forms of tracheal catarrh, inhaling hydrogen carbonate vapor while bathing by inhalation has a good effect. It is excellent for drinking therapy, for chronic gastritis, constipation, bile and liver diseases, and their many forms. Expectorant, mild laxative and antacid. It can be used for a longer period of time and can be consumed every 2-3-4 days until evening.
It can also be used for dental and oral care because, being alkaline, it dissolves tartar and heals gum inflammation. Due to its skin-relaxing and dissolving effect, it can be used in many forms of skin diseases. This is the case with psoriasis, chronic eczema, especially with harmful skin changes caused by old-age skin atrophy. In the case of various skin lesions, repeated oiling of the body surface is advisable.
